TL;DR

In this quick review, I reviewed some demos from a Steam event, Enter the Dragon. Sorted from the best one (in this article) for me are "Cyber Manhunt" -> "Minds Beneath Us" -> "PuPu's Adventure Park (噗噗的冒险乐园)" -> "Nobody - The Turnaround" -> "暖雪 Warm Snow" -> "Clocker". On Saturday, I discovered a Steam event through my Twitter timeline (I guess this one. I forgot which one, even though I dived into my browser history already). It's entitled "Enter the Dragon", and it was dubbed as "the first ever Steam-based event celebrating games from the Greater China region". And well... It includes plenty of games from China (only?). The event ran from 22 to 29 April 2022 (10 am PDT). It looks like the event is hosted by Pixmain. From what I counted on the page, there are 115 games available for sale and showcased in this event, but there are probably more from developers/publishers, whose product is not showcased on the page. You can watch the trailer for this event through this video below:

In this event, the games divided into seven categories/themes, which are:

  • Golden Dragon (All Stars) - nine games.
  • Black Dragon (Horror and Thriller) - eight games.
  • Blue Dragon (Strategy) - twenty games.
  • Green Dragon (RPG & Adventure) - eighteen games.
  • Red Dragon (Action & Shooter) - twenty six games.
  • White Dragon (Simulation) - eighteen games.
  • Yellow Dragon (Puzzle & Narrative) - sixteen games.

In these 115 games, there are some demos that are available to try. So... Will any of these games actually be worth buying and playing for a long time? Let's see. Anyway, before jumping into the quick reviews, Pixmain also released a video on YouTube presenting 40 out of 115 games in this event, which you can watch below.

Quick Reviews and Gameplay

So, in this section, you can see details, steam link, short review, my rating, and my gameplay video, for each game. For details, and Steam link, I copied the data from their Steam/steamdb page. Then for the short review, and my rating, is based on my opinion. Lastly, for gameplay video, each video is currently "Unlisted", except for "Nobody - The Turnaround", as I've played the game far before this event. The gameplay is "Unlisted" as I've scheduled dozens of other gameplay videos till early June already on my channel (you can see the schedule and database of all games I've played on this page. In case the developers/publishers/anyone related to the game (even you as viewers/readers) wanted to change the video status from "Unlisted" to "Published", just feel free to Reach Me. Also, these short-reviews below are sorted by the order of time when I played the game, and it's not based on the best till the worse one (in this article).

My Review

"Nobody - The Turnaround" is a point-and-click type game, which includes other elements such as choice-matter, rich-story-line, and basic action (such as basic mathematics, clicking and moving action, and such). For the demo version that I played, there is only one story, entitled "Debt Trap" which makes us play as a young-adult man who needs to collect enough money to pay off their family debt from the loan shark in just a few days. The conflict revolves around: 1) He is a young-adult; 2) Has no job at the moment; 3) Available job pay cheaply; 4) Debt payment deadline also super close; 5) His sister also in danger as these moneylenders stalked her; 6) He's also practically have low saving as the game start; and many more.

As for me, I played the game twice. Once I died, I tried playing again, as it's a choice-matter game, which means there are gonna be possibilities of multiple endings from the game. However, as the choice that I chose probably did not end up well, I decided to end my gameplay session after a second try. It's just... It Is hard to climb those stairs. Aside from that, the game offered pretty good graphics, music, and storyline. Even though it was a bit slow when I played it on my decent laptop, overall it's not that heavy. However, the game probably could make you feel blue if you are easily triggered/swayed like me. If you have more than enough budget to spend, it's probably worth it to buy this title.

"Clocker" is another point-and-click type game. The game includes other elements such as storyline, puzzle, and fiction. The game makes us play as a father who works as a clock repairman. He has a daughter, and the game revolves in "time", as the title suggests.

I couldn't finish this game, because I got a bug after I opened a watch given by "an old man". The instruction on the screen said I need to use "my scope", which I think means something like a loupe/magnifying glass, as there are only three tools available to use (screwdriver, tweezers, and a magnifying glass). I was able to use a screwdriver and tweezers. However, when I use the loupe, what I can see is only white large area with a small area showing the object below. Which makes the game... not working anymore. I couldn't solve anything, and I decided to stop playing after.

As a demo... This is really not convincing at all. Also considering that the game was released a long time ago already (2019???), which also means that the developers/publishers probably not even bother to update the demo. So I don't think it's worth it to buy this title. Even though the graphics and music were pretty good, the game just wasn't working as smoothly as I hoped.

暖雪 Warm Snow

“Warm Snow” is a fighting-action type game. Here you will play as a warrior where you need to kill any enemies you encounter. I tried this game till I died, and if I understand it correctly, the game doesn't save your check-point. So if you are dead, you will appear in a shop (?), not where you died before, and could retry your fighting. The only actions you could do are slashing, and sword-shooting. Interestingly, after you shoot your sword, you need to collect it again manually, rather than automatically come back to us as the player.

As a demo... This game feels quite convincing. Aside from well... If you die, you need to re-do everything again from the start, which could be frustrating, especially for players like me. Anyhow, the game could run smoothly on my decent laptop, even though no graphic option was available to change. The music and graphics on the game are also good. Another downside that I probably felt is... I couldn't shoot my sword correctly halfway through the game. I don't know if it's the game, or it's me who still couldn't understand it that well on how to point and shoot the sword correctly. Which makes me lose the battle with wolf-boss before I die.

Next, I played another game entitled "Minds Beneath Us", where I played as an "undercover agent" to uncover cases. The game includes various elements, such as point-and-click, rich-story-line, AI, Sci-Fi, basic action, puzzle, solving skills, and many more. Upon playing, if you have watched an episode of Black Mirror, entitled "White Christmas", you probably could relate to the gameplay better later on, as the game is probably heavily inspired by the episode (this is purely my guess). In short, this title is such a good gem, at least for me.

As a demo... This was... So good. Such a gem, in short. The game itself felt very convincing for me to save up some budget to buy and play the full version later on. Everything in the game feels... well-planned and well-put. The only downside for me probably is there is no option to change the graphic, as it runs a bit stuttering. But I assume this is probably intended by the developers to build that pixelated-modern-glitch type game. My gameplay probably could explain what I experienced better than this paragraph.

Cyber Manhunt

The next game in this article entitled "Cyber Manhunt". In this game you will play as a new employee to a cyber-security company. You will play a hacker role in this game, where you will hack/phishing/disguise as someone to uncover various cases. The demo consists of two parts: tutorial, and half of chapter one (yes, you read that right, “ONLY HALF” 😠😡). This game includes various elements, such as rich-storyline, simulation, RPG, puzzle, solving skills/detective, and such.

As a demo, this is another gem that I gladly found in this event. The game lay out everything so well. Graphic? Well. Sound and music? Well. Storyline? Well. Simulation? Well... Enough. The downside is probably just that chapter one... Why do you have to cut my curiosity right after I finish half of the chapter? 😭😮‍💨 I was happily and probably at my peak of curiosity, then the demo just ended there. 😠 I guess, this is how I expected another game entitled "Chinatown Detective Agency" should be, which unfortunately doesn't.

Also probably worth noting that... As it's a game, and the developer does state in the beginning that the purpose is to make the player understand and realise how our data privacy is precious and important... I guess it's worth noting that hacking probably will not work as simple as the game. Especially as these developers and the security have super-minimal security to their accounts (no 2FA? Seriously? 😂). But overall, this game could portray the big picture of how easy it is to scrap/stalk anyone's data as easily as lately as this world grew digitally day-by-day.

Anyway, #WorthToBuy

Okay, last one, this demo entitled "PuPu's Adventure Park (噗噗的冒险乐园)". This game includes various elements such as cute creatures, (time)-management, simulation, RPG, and many more. Here you will play as a manager of a combat-training-park, where you will need to breed cute-creatures named "PuPu", then assign them into various areas, where visitors will come and interact with them.

As a demo... Hm... I have played this game long enough. Around 90 minutes. It's an enjoyable session, however... I have a lot of questions and thoughts too. Like I do understand some things in the game, and also not understand some of it. The game ran smoothly, and there was some text which is not translated to English yet from Chinese, but it's not that problematic. The graphic, sound, and story also felt... smooth and good.

However, I feel like the story and the instructions were... long and complex, which makes it hard and kinda confusing to understand quickly. There are also various icons in the game, which are definitely easier to understand as you progressively try the game. But at the same time, it felt overwhelming, as you need to manage various things at the same time. Some goals/objectives in the game also feel confusing for me. At least for the last goals, I couldn't finish the goals listed on the screen as I don't know how to complete it. Probably if there are more updates in the future, it's gonna be easier to understand. Also the full version is probably worth buying if you have more than enough budget.

Closing

As for now, those are six games that I have tried from this event. I hope this quick review and the gameplays could give some idea of these games from the event. Also I am planning to try probably 12-18 more demos from the event in the upcoming days, but for the review, I guess I will need some time to make the article. Hopefully I could write the article during my short free time.

That's all for now. Thank you for reading this review, and see you in another post. Bye! 👋🏻
