On Saturday, I discovered a Steam event through my Twitter timeline (I guess this one. I forgot which one, even though I dived into my browser history already). It's entitled "Enter the Dragon", and it was dubbed as "the first ever Steam-based event celebrating games from the Greater China region". And well... It includes plenty of games from China (only?). The event ran from 22 to 29 April 2022 (10 am PDT). It looks like the event is hosted by Pixmain. From what I counted on the page, there are 115 games available for sale and showcased in this event, but there are probably more from developers/publishers, whose product is not showcased on the page. You can watch the trailer for this event through this video below:

In this event, the games divided into seven categories/themes, which are:

  • Golden Dragon (All Stars) - nine games.
  • Black Dragon (Horror and Thriller) - eight games.
  • Blue Dragon (Strategy) - twenty games.
  • Green Dragon (RPG & Adventure) - eighteen games.
  • Red Dragon (Action & Shooter) - twenty six games.
  • White Dragon (Simulation) - eighteen games.
  • Yellow Dragon (Puzzle & Narrative) - sixteen games.

In these 115 games, there are some demos that are available to try. So... Will any of these games actually be worth buying and playing for a long time? Let's see. Anyway, before jumping into the quick reviews, Pixmain also released a video on YouTube presenting 40 out of 115 games in this event, which you can watch below.

Then for the short review, and my rating, is based on my opinion. Lastly, for gameplay video, each video is currently "Unlisted" and will be set to public later as scheduled (you can see the schedule and database of all games I've played on this page. In case the developers/publishers/anyone related to the game (even you as viewers/readers) wanted to change the video status from "Unlisted" to "Published", just feel free to Reach Me. Also, these short-reviews below are sorted by the order of time when I played the game, and it's not based on the best till the worse one (in this article).

"Soda Crisis" is a shooting game, where you will act as an alien coming into a deserted planet, then you will start shooting inhabitants of that planet to progress further into the game. You will be equipped with a few weapons on both of your hands, and you can run/dodge the attacks too. Is it fun?

Not really. The game felt hard/difficult to complete, even just to finish first level, which was supposed to give some introduction to what gamers will expect in the game. Upon playing, you will realise that you could only shoot these enemies, and dodge them by running back-and-forth, but no items available to upgrade your health/power as it will be reduced automatically if you get hit. Then when you die, you'll come back to the beginning of the stage, and not where you died before.

“藏梦 Hidden Dream” is... an exploration game, where you act as a princess where you probably gonna explore and collect items to progress further.

As a demo... This game felt kinda... raw, when I played it for the first time. I don't know, it felt quite far from complete, and me as a gamer couldn't explore or collect anything due to lack of information available. I played with a gamepad, yet no instruction available for the gamepad, yet. But I'll understand as this is probably still Work in Progress. Then I tried to walk into certain boulders, but then I slipped, and needed to climb again from the start. The atmosphere/weather (?) also makes the game harder to see as it's frequently turned dark out of nowhere.

My Review

"Chaos Galaxy" is a point-and-click, turn-based strategy, tower-defence game. Which includes other elements like universe/galaxy/planets thing, as the game is based on colonising-defending planets in the galaxy. Seems fun, right?

Well... It's not. This first instalment of this franchise (of demo, I don't know about the full version) has no tutorial at all in the beginning of the game. After quite long rolling-narration and some conversation, the game quickly starts without any further instruction, leaving the gamer clueless on what to do after. With all those icons-buttons-texts and more items shown on the screen, as for me, I just felt overwhelmed and didn't know what to do. Which makes the gameplay, well... Not that fun.

"Chaos Galaxy 2" is the second instalment from the similar title above, "Chaos Galaxy", which means, it has a similar theme and element as the previous one. How's the game compared to its predecessor?

Well, thank god there is a tutorial available, shortly after some quick introduction, which is definitely helpful to first-timers. However... The complexity is still there. Like... It's still as complex as the first instalment, which makes it... hard to understand, and to enjoy. Even though my gameplay lasts for almost an hour, it's actually really hard to follow till the end.

Home Behind 2

This is the last game in this article, it's entitled "Home Behind 2". In this game, you will play as a warrior-woman who came back from her college life to a conflicted area, which is her hometown. Her background is based on how her family received bad treatment back then, which made her dad die. This conflicted area was also led by a corrupt dictator. During the game, she will be accompanied by a few people whom you'll meet as the game progresses further.

As a demo, this is quite good for a game. It does feel kinda boring as the gameplay feels quite repetitive. But then we have a few backgrounds and areas to uncover, which makes it a bit different from one area to another. Then there are also some mini-game included in certain areas, such as clicking items on the road, fixing things/vehicles, collecting items in abandoned buildings, and more. The tutorial in the beginning also doesn't feel too hard to understand, and you could follow along as the game goes on.

Some downside is probably how the main character (the woman, Banan), seems so rude, but probably this is due to her background and first time team-working with a few strangers. Then there is also a long duration/time needed to finish the demo. My gameplay covered three areas, and at the beginning, the developer stated that it's gonna end when we reach area 10, which means that there are seven more areas to uncover in my gameplay... Which means it's gonna be much longer...

Anyway, probably #WorthToBuy

Closing

Unfortunately, this batch felt kinda disappointed compared to the first one. The only game that I could recommend as #WorthToBuy is "Home Behind 2". The other four… Probably if there are some improvements available later.

That's all for now. Thank you for reading this review, and see you in another post. Bye! 👋🏻
